What are ittars? 

In the most literal sense, ittars are essential oils or perfume oils obtained from flowers/plant sources. Most commonly these oils are extracted via hydrodistillation or steam distillation process. 

Ittars and attars are same? 

The words attar and ittar are often used interchangeably and mean the same. 

How are ittars and perfumes different? 

Perfumes contain alcohol and Ittars are oil-based.

How are ittars made? 

Ittars are obtained from botanical or other natural sources. Typically, these oils are extracted through hydrodistillation or steam distillation. After extraction, the oils are usually distilled into a wood base like sandalwood and then aged. The ageing process can vary from one to ten years, depending on the botanicals used and the desired results. 

What ingredients are used in making ittars? 

Technically, ittars are distillates of flowers, herbs, spices, and other natural materials, such as baked soil, over sandalwood oil or liquid paraffins using a hydrodistillation technique that involves a still (deg) and a receiving vessel (bhapka). These methods are still practised in Kannauj, India.

How long will the fragrance from your ittars last?

It usually lasts for a day. Ittars are pure fragrances without any alcohol and evolve on your skin as you go along the day, making you experience your fragrance on different beautiful notes. 

Do you have ittars for men?

At Zikrr, the idea of fragrances goes beyond gender. However, three of our fragrances - Jashn, Kashish and Karma are loved and most ordered by men. 

What is the best way to store the ittars? 

Ittars are sensitive to light, heat, and air. To preserve their quality, they must be stored in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight. Close the bottle tightly to prevent air exposure, as prolonged exposure can degrade the fragrance and reduce its potency over time

Are the ittars skin-friendly? 

Our ittars contain no harmful chemicals that can damage your skin. However, it is still advisable to test apply them and wait for 30 minutes before using them daily.

What are the best spots to apply ittars? 

Behind the ear, base of throat, inside elbow, inside wrist, behind the knee are the 5 spots to apply ittars.

Do ittars have expiration dates? 

Ittars do not have a date of expiration due to their natural and concentrated composition.
